When should I refer a patient or client to OA?
Do any of your patients or clients:
-
Continue to eat compulsively despite medical advice to control their weight?
-
Find that they cannot stop bingeing, purging, or restricting their eating?
-
Find their efforts repeatedly ending in demoralising failure, despite making firm resolutions?
-
Have weight concerns, body image issues, attitudes to food, or behaviours that cause health problems?
To determine if someone is a compulsive eater we have them answer 15 questions.
Overeaters Anonymous can help.
OA can enhance—not replace—existing treatment programs for those already under medical supervision. Find out more about integrating OA in a health care setting in our Courier Professional Community Newsletter.
Why refer patients or clients OA?
Overeaters Anonymous is a proven program based on the Twelve-Step principles of Alcoholics Anonymous. Many of our members have reached and maintained a healthy weight by following this program of recovery.
Due to our personal experiences of compulsive eating and recovery, we are able to offer understanding and support for other compulsive eaters.
You may have patients or clients who are obese, overweight, underweight, or maintaining a healthy body weight, as well experiencing issues such as overeating, bingeing, grazing, bulimia, anorexia, or compulsive exercising. You may also have patients or clients who have undergone some type of bariatric surgery yet may still not be able to control their compulsive overeating.
Overeaters Anonymous offers hope and recovery to all who wish to stop eating compulsively. The results of our membership survey outline how life improved for many members.
